This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Joe Stump (Alcatrazz)

„Ever since I was young I’ve always loved strats, all my heroes played them (Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Gary Moore when he was in the height of his hard rock/metal period). I have a ton of Fenders from various years -my favorites being the 70’s strats with the large headstocks, as well as a variety of Yngwie and Blackmore signature models.

I’ve been with ESP guitars for over 20 years now and they’ve made me some killer custom shop strats, (here’s a live pic of me with one as well as a few others) they all have very similar specs (listed below). When it comes to amplification for me there is only Marshall. I have an awesome collection of older heads from the 70’s including one previously owned by Yngwie himself, but my go to head for recording these days is the YJM 100 Yngwie Malmsteen signature Marshall. It’s if you took everything great about an older Marshall and made it more high fidelity and with the 100/50 watt switch it’s 2 great Marshalls in one head.“
