The new Album „Reign of the reaper“ from swedish Doom Metal Kings SORCERER ist our album of the year. The band was so kind to do an exclusiv Track by Track for all the great songs on it.

Sorcerer:

All of the songs on Reign Of The Reaper are based or focused around the concept of death. Whether the literal meaning or concept of death and the metaphorical. This was unintentional and the album itself is not a concept. Rather all of the songs are stand alone tracks.

Morning Star:
Morning Star is kind of an ode or a tribute to one of my favourtie poems, John Milton’s Paradise Lost. It is about the fall of Lucifer from Heaven, only to rule over his own kingdom of Pandaemonium in Hell. The tale is the epitome of how we perceive good and evil, and just a fun topic to write about.

Reign Of The Reaper:
Is about soldiers dying on the battle field after being slain by their enemies. In most instances there are tales of those who bargain with the Reaper, or try to persuade the Reaper to allow them to live longer. Ultimately, it is the rider who decides who he takes. An inescapable truth no matter what lore.

Thy Kingdom Will Come:
Continues on with the theme of battle lore, and was mainly written by Anders and Conny. I skimmed over the text and made a few corrections, but felt his lyrics caught the theme and mood, of the upbeat tempo and granduer. It really feels like you are riding off into battle with your sword held high in the air amongst your comrades.

Eternal Sleep and Break Of Dawn:
These two tracks, while very different, come from the exact same source of inspiration and were written about someone I truly care about. The idea of losing them hit home, and it is my way of working through that grief process on Eternal Sleep, someone who is on their death bed, to the crossing over in Break of Dawn. Anders sings these two songs beautifully and embodies the essence of both the sorrow and mourning.

Curse Of Medusa:
Is all about the most popular gorgon in Greek Mythology. I had never heard any decent songs to give the Medusa myth any justice. So, this one is primarily based on the Ovid, Roman mythology and I used the names from Greek Mythology.

Unveiling Blasphemy:
Is about being betrayed by faith and the death of that faith. Where people who hide behind the guise of a preacher, reverend or priest mask their true nasty intentions.

The Underworld:
Is basically about Revelations and the rise of Pandaemonium. A true apocalypse with no survivors, and the chrous is more or less the begging and pleading of those who are to be swallowed by hell. The spoken passage in the middle of the track is a citation taken from Paradise Lost, where Satan or Lucifer, looks onto to Eden and the heavens above with spite and self loathing.
