Legendary singer Leather Leone (ex- Chastain) has long been considered one of the originators of the female power metal vocal style, having appeared on the classic Chastain albums Mystery Of Illusion, Ruler Of The Wasteland, The 7th Of Never, The Voice Of The Cult and For Those Who Dare. Now she returns on Steamhammer/SPV with the new solo album We Are the Chosen, marking her first solo material since her 2018 effort Leather II.
Congratulation for the new excellent record „We are the Chosen“. What can you tell us about inspiration, songwriting and recording of it?
Thank you. My musical landscape changed dramatically in the middle of 2019. It fueled me to, get it together and prove to myself that I had the power to create what was inside my head. Inspiration came to me in many forms. I opened my mind and the door to let her in. I went to Poland (Hertz Studio) again as was my wish…the planets were aligned for me with „We are the Chosen“. I am so grateful.
How you find your musical partner Vinnie Tex and how do you two work together on the songs?
I found my muse in Brasil during my 2016 tour with Rob Rock..we had a musical connection immediately. It took some time, but we stayed in touch. Through becoming friends and talking we realized we were on the same page..We moved forward from there. He is very much a songwriter and wanted to explore that, as did I.
Do you still have contact to your old music mate David Chastain and do you know what he`s doing these days?
I am in touch with Chastain always. He continues to write and release music. Nothing makes him happier..well maybe basketball….
With Chastain you recorded some of All Time Classic US-Metal Album in the mids of the 80ties, what you think why the band does`t get the fame of success for it?
I can’t speculate on that. As far as I’m concerned we did have success. We created music that has stayed with people…that they still song to me 30 years later. That is success to me.
Are there plans for live gigs in the future with the great new album?
Absolutely..it’s my priority to work „We are the Chosen“ on the road as much as possible. Stay tuned for further news..
The music business had bad times these days with all the downloads and less sales. Can you live from the music or do other things to get along?
I have my hands in many adventures..
You are a big Fan of Ronnie James Dio, have you ever met him and what makes he so special for you?
Yes , I spent times with him when he played in my area. The moment I heard his voice my musical life took a different direction. His lyrical content, his phrasing but mostly his vocal tone and timbre. There is no one close to his power and magic in delivery. Such a special exquisite talent. I miss him with us. He would be proud of“We are the Chosen“
You`re voice is still powerful and crystal clear, what do you do to stay in this perfect shape?
Thank you ..I do cardio, drink water.try to sleep…then I sing an hour daily at speaking level..

You are so appreciated and spectacular to me. You have always been here. I will see you in 2023 to celebrate what we are….The Chosen…
