This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Nicolas and Dennis from the Band DAGGER THREAT.

When did you start playing guitar and do you remember your first guitar?
Nicolas: I think I was around 17 or 18 years old. I got a no name classical acoustic guitar and later a no name Stratocaster shaped electric guitar.
Dennis: Ibanez Gio Model and a no name acoustic guitar.

What are your influences and which guitar players are your faves?
Nicolas: I got so many influences throughout the many years. If it’s Mick Thompson from Slipknot, JB Brubaker from August Burns Red or even Ben Howard for acoustic guitar. Fave guitar player now is Nicko Calderon from Knocked Loose.
Dennis: The beginnings of the Nu-Metal era. Korn. Slipknot, SOAD, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park etc.

How many guitars do you own and what are your favorite models?
Nicolas: Now I only got three guitars. My favorite is the one I am playing live right now. ESP LTD RM-600.
Dennis: I got 7 guitars in total. Fav model is the Jackson SL2MG HT.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?
Nicolas: A perfect guitar for me is when it got just one pickup, one knob and a killswitch. Design ofc is important too. A perfect amp would be for me a EVH 5150 III or a Marshall JCM800/900.
Dennis: A perfect guitar for me is if the guitar is easy to play. It needs EMGs and it needs to look amazing.

How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?
Nicolas: I am sick of the fight between modeler or tube amp. Haha
It all got pros and cons. I love the tube amp for the sound and the look of it. It’s real and OG. But for touring and simplicity is a modeler like Quad Cortex amazing. The options are unlimited in those.
Dennis: Modelers are way easier to use and the sound of them are amazing these days. An tube amp on other hand is way more dynamic and the sound is better aswell.

Which guitars and amps were used on the new album or for recordings?
Nicolas: We used my guitar the ESP LTD RM-600. For the amp we used the Peavy 6505
with a Tube Screamer and run it through an impulse mixing. They used at 1408 Prodcutions (Shouthout to them) they own cap from Orange and Mesa. We got some quad guitars on our newest record, and it was with the ENGL Powerball II but then with a Pariah Fuzz Pedal and an additional Tuber Screamer.

When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?
Nicolas: I chose my current one the LTD ESP RM-600 but I would love to have a Jacks like Dennis have. The Jackson SL2MG HT.
Dennis: Really simple… Jackson SL2MG HT.
