This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Yannick Lehmann (Paleface Swiss).

When you start guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?
I started playing guitar when I was 14 years old! So that would be 12 years now! Actually I rented my first guitar in the local music-store, where I also took my first guitar lessons. It was a Godin Redline!

What are your influences and which guitar players are your faves?
My Influences reach from Metal all over to rock. When I started listening to heavier music I went all the way through the different sub genres of rock and metal. But if I had to name you my four main influences it would be: Thrash Metal, Heavy Metal, Modern Metal and Metalltore. My favorite guitar players are Mille Petrozza from Kreator, Matt Tuck from Bullet for my Valentine and Jeff Loomis!

How many guitars do you own and what are your favorite models?
I own about ten or twelve guitars…haven’t counted them in years to be honest. My favorite two models are my ESP Horizon and my ESP LTD Arrow in cherry red.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?
For me it’s definitely a ESP guitar with Fishman pickups in combination with a ENGL Fireball amplifier! I love high gain sounds and that’s basically all you need!

How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?
Both are amazing invention! For studio I will always choose tube amps but for live music its so much more comfortable when you have a small modeler with you. The modern technology sound nearly the same as tube amps!

Which guitars and amps were used on the new album or for recordings?
I only used ESP Guitars for the recording. For amplifiers we mixed my ENGL Fireball with a Laboga to create a massive, bone crushing sound!

When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?
As mentioned above I would choose one of my two all-time fav guitars. My ESP LTD Arrow in cherry red. All the specs on this guitar are perfect for my and it sounds amazing.
