This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Henrik Palm.

Who am I interviewing?

Henrik Palm. Just a boring normie from Sweden.

When you start guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?

I started to play guitar when I was 5 years old. I played on an older neighbours guitar before I got my own on my 6th birthday. Just a cheap nylon acoustic that my mom and dad got me. And I still have it! That was in july 1993. My first electric guitar was a Samick Stratocaster-knock off that I got for Christmas ’95. I don’t have the guitar anymore but I kept the studded guitar strap I got with it!!! Which I still use, actually.

What are your influences and which guitar players are your faves?

As a music fan – which I am first and foremost – Im all over the place. A shit ton of hardcore punk from all over the planet, metal, early punkrock, free jazz, old industrial stuff like Throbbing Gristle, soundtracks, a ton a 60s garage and psychedelic stuff, krautrock, progressive rock, synth pop, The Residents, space rock, Joe Meek, Brian Eno, Steve Reich… Anything and everything that melts my brain! And all of that is influencing me. My favorite guitar players is Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Ron Ashton (The Stooges), Randy Uchida (GISM), Greg Sage (Wipers), Fast Eddie Clarke (Motörhead), Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin (Trouble), Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest), Piggy (Voivod), Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) etc. Well, lots of punk and metal DUDES it seems.

How many guitars do you own and what are your favorite models?

I think I have 8 guitars in total. I have two Jazzmasters, a Gibson Flying V, a Gibson SG and s few japanese BC Rich copies that rule so hard. I also have a Danelectro 12-String which I love.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?

The guitar player! A good guitar player can play on shitty gear and make it sound like a million bucks. A guitarist who relies to much on their expensive gear should perhaps practice more. Cos it comes in handy sometimes.

How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?

I have used both and don’t mind any of it. Also see answer above.

Which guitars and amps were used on the new album or for recordings?

For both bass and guitar I used an old Marshall. Cant remember the model But it was LOUD. Used it for both bass and guitars. I used my Fender Jazzmaster, a Les Paul and a Telecaster for most of it.

When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?

Probably the SG. Cos its light in weight and I don’t have any muscles.
