This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Innes Sibun. More about him can be find under Part I https://darkstars.de/guitar-special-vol-90-mit-innes-sibun/

When you start guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?

I started playing guitar at 12 years old after hearing BB King on the radio. My first guitar cost me £8 from working a paper round, it was an old acoustic with a very high action but I loved it.

What are your influences and which guitar players are your faves?

My favourite players are BB King, Freddie King, Django Reinhardt, Ronnie Earl, Peter Green, Jon Scofield, Jimi Hendrix, Gary Clarke JR, Derek Trucks, Roy Buchanan & of course Rory Gallagher. My influences are mainly blues but I love jazz, soul, reggae, gospel & funk.

How many guitars do you own and what are your favorite models?

I have around 8 guitars, my main guitar is a Gibson SG which I play most of the time, I also have a couple of Strats that I play for the Rory Gallagher tribute shows & a Telecaster for slide. My acoustic is a Taylor & I play a Gretsch resonater for acoustic slide.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?

I’ve been using the Boogie Fillmore 50 combo with an extra speaker for the last few years & that with my SG is perfect for me, the amp goes from real Fender cleans to quite high gain so it’s perfect.

How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?

I’ve only used modelers in the studio but to be honest I can’t tell the difference between them & the real thing, I like to use an amp live though as I like the power.

Which guitars and amps were used on the new album or for recordings?

Later this year I’m starting work on an instrumental album which I’m writing for now, it’s being produced by Charlie Jones (Page/Plant, Goldfrapp, The Cult) & he’s a real genius in the studio. It’s blues based but with gospel, jazz & funk influences so I’ll be taking my SG, Strat Tele & acoustics & maybe borrow some guitars too for different textures & sounds.

When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?

If I could only take one guitar I guess it would be my Taylor acoustic.
