When you start guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?
I picked up the electric guitar in 1997, a Kay SG on loan from my uncle.
What are your influences and which guitar players are your faves?
I grew up listening to 90’s alternative rock which influenced much of my playing, along with the classical music I learned in my youth. Eddie Van Halen was my fav player as a young guitar player- absolutely electrifying!
How many guitars do you own and what are your favorite models?
I actually don’t own any guitars, but use my brother Luke’s. He has quite the stable. My go to is the ’64 reissued Trini Lopez.
What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?
I’ve always been a Mesa Boogie fan- I played a Stiletto Ace with a Gibson Es-335 Studio for a long time. Nowadays, I like the Vox AC30 tone and power, with an SG, or the Trini.
How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?
I play a Kemper with my brother on the road, but enjoy the process of fiddling with pedals, amps, and guitars also. In the studio, anything goes. The technology has come so far, it’s hard to tell the difference. I like an amp roaring behind me, but can get used to anything.
Which guitars and amps were used on the new album or for recordings?
The new record features a Kemper, Gibson 325, and Fender Jazzmaster primarily.
When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?
If I had to pick one guitar, I’d go with the trusty Trini Lopez. It shreds, does the rhythm thing, looks badass, and is a blast to play.
