This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Sean Webster.

When did you start playing guitar and do you remember your first guitar?

I started officially playing when I was about 13 or 14 yrs old. I had picked up and strummed a few chords on my dads acoustic much younger but it wasn’t until about the age of 13 or so that I decided I wanted to learn to play. My first guitar was a Squier Stratocaster in white which I still have ( although a friend of mine sprayed the body British racing green many years ago. )

What are your influences and which guitar players are your favorites?

I have soooo many influences that I can’t name them all, but some of my Favorites are Gary Moore, Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, Joey Landreth, David Gilmore, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.

How many guitars do you own and which are your favorites?

Including acoustic guitars I own 8 guitars plus 2 bass guitars ( which I use when recording my demos ) I like them all for different reasons, but at the minute my PRS 594 Mccarty is top of the list. It’s a dream to play, effortless and sounds epic.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?

To be honest I think the answer to this is the player. Its all individual choice and preference. If the guitar feels “ right “ then finding an amp is another task. It took me 15 years to finally get the amp I wanted ( because they are so rare and also out of my price range for so long )

How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?

I think I’ll always be a tube amp kinda guy. I love the authenticness of it all. Although Fender have finally nailed it with their latest range of modeling amps. Their new range is super light ( always a bonus ) and sound almost identical to the tube version. For me though, as long as I can still carry it, it will be my Fender Tonemaster.

Which guitars were used on the new album or the other recordings?

Uhm…. Well guitar wise , everything from my 72’ Telecaster custom, to my ‘60s re-issue Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strats, and of course lately the PRS. Plus various acoustic guitars. I’m now sponsored by Dowina Acoustics and they sound amazing. Up there with Martin and Taylor etc. So they are always on my albums now.

If You can only take one guitar which would it be?

The PRS 594 Mccarty. Its awesome. I love it.
