This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with David Lowy (The Dead Daisies).

When you started guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?

I started playing as a teenager at age of 15.  It was an Ibanez, at the time and was the cheapest guitar on the market.

What are your influences and which guitar players are your faves?

I was influenced by the Australian band The Angels, founded by brothers John and Rick Brewster.  The band is known as Angel City in the US. Malcolm Young is my favorite player.

How many guitars do you own and what are your favourite models?

I’m not a collector of guitars. I have about 10 guitars.  My favorite model is the Gibson SG.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp?

A Gibson Les Paul through a vintage Marshall. Unfortunately I can’t play a Les Paul because I have a bad back and it’s too heavy for me.

How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?

I use a tube amp on stage.  But I think using a modeler would be fine.  I’m not really a purist.

Which guitars and amps were used on the new album or for recordings?

I used a vintage Dwight Coronet Epiphone 1963 and a Friedman BE100 brown eye amp.

When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?

Gibson SG.
