Hello, my name is Chris Bones and I am the guitarist for the band Twisted Rose. So far so good, but today I want to tell you a little bit about my gear and my love for the Guitar. It wasn’t long ago, around 4 years, that I started playing guitar. But guitar has accompanied and fascinated me all my life. For me personally it is simply the best and easiest way to express yourself musically and emotionally. My first guitar, which is still hanging on my wall today, was an Epiphone SG from the 90s. Today I mainly play Gibson Les Paul models and Gibson SG’s. My main guitar is a red Gibson Les Paul Standard.
For some parts, especially live, I use a Gibson SG in cherry red. In the studio I also use a Gibson Modern DC Standard from the Custom Shop. Doesn’t look like Gibson, but I love this beast. I currently have 32 guitars. Most of them are Gibson’s, some are upper class Epiphones and some other Brands. A guitar that I also really enjoy playing is a guitar by Dean Guitars (Gran Sport Double Neck). But now from my guitars to the amps.
In the studio I am very keen to experiment and use a large number of amps. My sound consists mostly of Marshall amps. When I need a vintage sound I either use a Marshall 2555X Silver Jubilee or one of the early Marshall JCM 800s. For our more modern sounds or songs that call for more gain, I usually use a Marshall JVM410H. But I also like to use my Engl Thunder 50 or one of my Hughes&Kettner amps (GrandMeister Deluxe 40 and BlackSpirit 200). I use effects very sparingly. I don’t use any effects for my rhythm parts and for my guitar solos I use some reverb and delay. Thats it. For the first time, when we hit the road, I used 2 amps live at the same time. My Silver Jubilee and my JCM 800. This two amps complemented each other perfectly and created a real wall of sound. Unfortunately, there were always problems with this setup (especially when you played in other countries) and the two amps, which are very important to me, also suffered a lot from touring. So it happened that I tried it with my Hughes & Kettner BlackSpirit200 at the last gigs. What can I say? I was extremely surprised that the sound was absolutely awesome and the number of my things that have to be carried has been halved. I want to thank you for your interest and we’ll see you on tour.
