This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Freddie Vidales (Ashes of Ares)

When you start guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?

I started when I was 13 years old. I still have my first guitar. It is a Harmony Ignitor. It is a very cheap guitar, but it is currently in the shop to get major upgrades, just for fun.

How many guitars you own, and which one is your favourite?

I own just about 30 guitars and basses. I would have to say that my favotire is my LTD EC-1000 Vintage model. It sounds perfect and plays wonderfully. It is my number one go-to.

What do you use on the new Album guitars and amps wise?

I used the LTD EC-1000 for all 6-string rhythm tracks. I used an LTD Hex-7 (Nergal from Behemoth signature model) for the 7-string songs. I used a BC Rich Shredzilla for all lead tracks (except for one song, where I used a Gibson Les Paul that belonged to a friend that died 3 years ago). I used a 1989 BC Rich Virgin for any parts that needed a whammy bar. I used a BC Rich Dagger semi-hollow for one song on the clean channel bits. And for the acoustics, I used an Ibanez Artwood. For amplifiers on the new album, we used Friedman for the rhythms, and Diezel for the leads.

What you think about modeling amps or profilers?

I recently started using an Atomic Amplifire 12 live, and I absolutely love it. I can program everything I need and get the sound I want with the press of one button. Also, it takes up almost no space and I can travel with it very easily. My Marshall has gained quite a bit of dust lately I must say.

What are your influences and which guitar players are your favs?

Overall, my favorite guitar player is Andy LaRocque. I love his flavor of lead playing and also his songwriting. But Dave and Adrian from Maiden, as well as Kirk Hammett were the ones I tried to copy while I was learning to play guitar. Ralph Santolla later became a huge influence on me once I decided I needed to improve my lead playing abilities. And I’m stil learning.
