This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Jonny Wemmenstedt (Nestor).

When did you start playing guitar and do you remember your first guitar?

I started when I was around 11 and it was a cheap Crafton guitar, a little bit over 20 dollars I think haha!

What are your influences and which guitar players are your favs?

In the beginning it was Angus Young and Ace Frehley, still are! When I got more into it, it was Yngwie and Gary Moore. Jake E Lee was also a big source of inspiration.

How many guitars do you own and what are your favorite models?

It’s about 11, I think, if I get the counting right:) My two favorites are an Ibanez Iceman ’79 and a Fender Strat Custom Shop ’56 from ’96.

What do you think makes the perfect guitar and amp? How do you feel about the question of modeler or tube amp?

I’ve always used tube amplifiers like Marshall and Peavey 5150 but when I discovered Kemper I switched over directly, sounds great and you don’t have to break your back carrying heavy stuff around!

Which guitars and amps were used on the new album?

I used an Ibanez RG2550E Prestige for some of the solos where I needed 24 frets, I also used my Iceman for some solos and mostly for the rhythm parts. On „Tomorrow“ I used my Les Paul Traditional both for solo and rhythm, it just fitted perfectly, so it’s these three guitars on everything on the album and I used the Kemper throughout the album!

When you only can choose one guitar, which one will you take?

I have to say the Ibanez Iceman, it’s so good and I got it when I was 13 so it’s not a difficult choice!
