This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Bill Hudson (Northtale). Photo Credits as on the photos marked.

1: When you start guitar playing and do you remember your first guitar?
Bill Hudson: I took my very first lesson in October of 1993. The first guitar was a TONANTE, which was a cheap Brazilian copy of a Fender Jaguar.

2: How many guitars you own and which one is your favourite?
BH: I own about 30 guitars altogether. My favorite changes all the time, but lately I’ve been digging my new 2021 Arrow 1001 by ESP Guitars. Another often favorite is the Horizon 7 EII and I just got a 7 string Acoustic TL7 which is blowing my mind though I haven’t had a chance to play it live yet. Big shoutout to my brothers Tony Rauser and Jeff Moore at ESP Guitars for a great partnership!

3: What do you use on the new Album guitars and amps wise?
BH: I used the two models above, and several others ESP Guitars, including a white M1000, an SN-1000, a couple of Eclipse models, an ST-1, my Traveler Guitar and a Nylon acoustic I’ve owned since I was young. Amp wise this time I wanted something more organic than the traditional modelers, so I used an EVH 5150 III 50 watt head through a 2×12 cabinet and some of my favorite MOOER pedals. Dennis Ward our producer reamped it all in Germany with similar gear as well.

4: What you you think about modeling amps or profilers?
BH: I love the Kemper! I’ve been using it and endorsing it since 2015.

5: What are your influences and which guitar players are your favs?
BH: Slash got me into guitar, and I’d still rate him the number 1. Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Vai, Frank Gambale are some of my favorites. As far as influences as a songwriter goes, I love the power metal bands from the 90s like Stratovarius, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian etc.
