This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Stu Marshall.

I’m the guitarist for USA Based band Death Dealer and the Australian metal band Arkenstone – I also produce, mix and master our stuff. I have a fairly large guitar collection of probably over 50 guitars at the moment, but one of the most special guitars I own is a custom guitar made for me by ESP (PICTURED) A few years ago I was in Tokyo hanging out with Makoto Suzuki who is the now president of ESP guitars Japan. We were friends and our friendship went back many years ot 2002 when I toured Japan with my band „Dungeon“.

He offered to build me a custom ESP to my specs so we sat down and with a good Japanese whiskey, we mapped out how the guitar would look. I wanted to combine the classic feel of the Gibson Les Paul but also the shred 80s feel of a true weapon, so we fuse the two together with a flame maple top on a star body with ebony board and EMGs.

For the last few years I’ve been endorsed with PRS guitars and absolutely love them. I think for quality they’re the best on the planet from a production factory standard.

Live and touring I use a Kemper because they’re easy to transport and globally available. I was endorsed by Blackstar amps but it’s very difficult to find suppliers in some of the countries we visited such as Russia, Romania and Serbia. Kemper is definitely the best option for me. I guess my major influences include George Lynch, Malmsteen, Jake E Lee, Vinnie Moore and many of the 80 shredders.
