This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists. What are their favorite guitars and how is it related to them? This time with Tara Lynch.
Meet „Cloud,“ my main guitar. She is a customized Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Special. This is the guitar I take on stage with me everywhere I go. I don’t think I have ever played a live show without her. I have been using Ernie Ball guitars for years, long before they endorsed me. The cut, the scale, everything about it is just perfect for me and my style of playing. I have taken the tremolo bar off, since I never use one, and though I’ve swapped out the pickups, they are still all DiMarzio. I use an Air Norton S in the neck, a Fast track 1 in the middle and an Air Zone Humbucker in the bridge. I’ve done a lot of work to the neck, myself, mostly fret filing/crowning. I kind of have my own unique way of doing things. It works for me. I like to work on my guitars myself.

You might recognize this guitar as I’m seen playing it in my video for „Antidote.“ Here we have yet another customized Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Special which used to belong to my good friend Vinnie Moore (UFO/solo), who recorded many albums and toured with it. It is probably my most treasured of all pieces. This is the guitar I used to record all of the melody stacks and leads on my debut album, „Evil Enough.“ This one is so precious to me I will never tour with it for fear of it getting stolen or lost. It’s got an amazing sound and feel like no other. This one has an Ernie Ball double locking tremolo system which is, again, wasted on me since I have once again removed the bar I will not use.

Meet „Sky,“ my other main touring guitar. Both Cloud and Sky are always on the road with me. They are pretty much identical in every way I described above, with one exception. This one used to be purple and I had it repainted to my custom mix of sky blue. This guitar also used to belong to Vinnie Moore, but it wasn’t his main purple silhouette as described above and I felt ok to customize this one for myself. This is my back up piece on stage as well as my warm-up guitar.

And now for a much different piece than the others…my customized Dean Vinnie Moore signature burst. This is a one-off, made especially for Vinnie himself and if you Google his name chances are you’ll see plenty of images with him playing it live. This is my second most treasured of all guitars. Once again, I will never tour with it for fear of it getting lost or stolen. I also used this piece while recording on my „Evil Enough“ album, mostly for rhythms. This one has a Floyd Rose tremolo system. I left the bar on this one, though I never use it.
As far as strings go, I love Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Hybrid Slinky Guitar Strings (9-46). They have an amazing sound, feel, last longer and stay in tune better than any other strings I’ve ever used. They are on all of my guitars, except for the VM Dean Burst, which has Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Slinky 10’s. For some reason, those feel better on that neck.
