This article series is about the tools of popular guitarists or bassists.. What are their favorite guitars or basses and how is it related to them? This time with Paul Paul Logue (James LaBrie Band, Eden`s Curse)

What is your inpact on the new James LaBrie records and what can you tell us about the recordings for it?
PL: I co-wrote all nine original songs with James, co-produced the album with him and also played all acoustic rhythm guitars and acoustic bass. The recordings were done at each of our home studios from March 2020 – July 2021, during the height of the global pandemic.
When you start bass playing and do you remember your first bassguitar?
PL: I started playing bass in 1993 and my first bass was a white second hand Westone bass.

What are your influences and which bass players are your favs?
PL: Like a lot of people, I began playing along to records that I was listening to at the time to really build out my bass chops. I was really taken by the bass playing of Mark ‘Snake’ Luckhurst of Thunder on the band’s first two albums; ‘Backstreet Symphony’ and ‘Laughing on Judgement Day’. My main influence over the years really focused on the style and sound of Eddie Jackson from Queensryche. I also love Kip Winger (Winger), Brian Wheat (Tesla), Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), Mike Brignardello (Giant), Andy Fraser (Free), Martin Talbot (Kiss of the Gypsy), Robert Kearns (Cry Of Love) and Michael Anthony (Van Halen).

How many basses do you own and what are your favorite models?
PL: I’m a Warwick Bass guy and have played them since 1997. I have recorded every Eden’s Curse album with my Warwick Streamer Stage II that my Dad bought me back in 1997. My main stage bass is a Warwick Custom Shop Corvette, featuring an Eden’s Curse logo paint. Both my Warwick’s have Hipshot D-Tuners. For the James LaBrie album I bought and recorded with a Warwick Alien Thinline Acoustic Bass (see attached pic).

What do you think makes the perfect bass and amp?
PL: It has to be Warwick for me and a Ampeg SVT-CL 8×10. Just a perfect, dirty but fat sound.

When you only can choose one bass, which one will you take?
PL: It would have to my Warwick Streamer Stage II that my Dad bought me.
