My brother Rick has always been a huge fan of Iron Maiden and he and our friend Joel Sheldon took me to my first heavy metal concert to see them at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan on August 11, 1983 during the Piece of Mind tour. I’ve seen them numerous times since. Bruce Dickinson is a legend. His voice is incredible and it still is to this day. I also love the fact that he is a bit of a renaissance man with talents and passions outside of music as well. Special thanks to Bruce and the guys from Iron Maiden for their incredible career that continues to inspire us to this day. On the technical side: I am calling this a live vocal cover, because I sang the song from beginning to end in one take without any vocal overdubs or edits. I have been singing along with this album for 40 years, so I know the song really well. I have also performed it live in a cover tune band. Bruce has a huge voice and it sounds to me like he emphasizes his chest more than his head voice. For a studio recording, I would push harder and emphasize my tone more, since I could punch in and out, but for this live vocal take, I needed to back off the intensity a little to maintain my vocal quality over the length of the song. I believe this was my fourth take over two sessions. The music came from Moises (with just the lead vocal deleted). I sent my vocal track and the music track to my friend Kurdt Vanderhoof who added some effects to the vocals and blended them in with the music. Special thanks to Kurdt for his assistance.
