Erja Lyytinen: Hard As Stone

„Hard as Stone“ was originally released on Erja Lyytinen’s acclaimed Another World album in 2019. For the upcoming live album, the song has been given a heavier and more powerful treatment, driven by massive riffs and hard-hitting breakdowns.

Adding an extra edge to the performance is Erja’s latest addition to her guitar arsenal: a 1989 Kramer Nightswan, whose distinctive tone brings a new intensity to the track.

„Hard as Stone“ is the second single from 50th Birthday Live 2026, accompanied by a music video filmed in March 2026 at Helsinki’s prestigious House of Culture, capturing the energy and raw power of Erja’s live performance.

A 50th Birthday Party at Helsinki’s House of Culture

Erja Lyytinen – 50th Birthday Live 2026 was recorded on March 21, 2026, at Helsinki’s iconic House of Culture (Kultsa), a legendary Finnish venue that has hosted artists including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen and Slayer.

The approximately 90-minute concert traces key moments of Erja Lyytinen’s career, blending blues, rock and slide guitar with heavier and progressive influences.

The setlist features „Ball and Chain“, „Smell the Roses“, „Going to Hell“, „Bird“, „Cherry Overdrive“, „Another World“, „Stoney Creek“ and „The Ring“, alongside a solo slide-guitar performance of „Lullaby“ and a new live interpretation of „Nasty Weather“ from Dreamland Blues.

Special guests include Swedish banjo-punk and blues band Baskery, joining Erja on „Torn,“ and rock musician Sami Yaffa on „One Thing I Won’t Change.“

A standout moment comes during „Another World“, when around 1,000 fans sing along with Erja, creating a powerful connection between artist and audience.

Two Live Performances Capturing a New Chapter

Erja Lyytinen – 50th Birthday Live 2026 goes beyond the Helsinki birthday concert, featuring a second live recording captured in October 2025 at Tempo in Mikkeli, Finland, during the tour supporting her Smell the Roses studio album.

This performance highlights the heavier and more progressive side of Lyytinen’s music, with „Dragonfly“, „Abyss“, „Empty Hours“, „Wings to Fly“, „You Talk Dirty“ and a powerful 13-minute version of „Wedding Day“, originally recorded with legendary American slide guitarist Sonny Landreth for the album Another World.

Together, the two recordings showcase Erja Lyytinen as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and commanding live performer. From her blues roots to a distinctive sound shaped by rock, hard rock, progressive music and Americana, Lyytinen has continually expanded her artistic horizons across a career spanning 13 studio albums.
