CROWN LANDS announce new studio album ‘Apocalypse’

Musically and creatively, Apocalypse marks a clear turning point. After completing Rituals entirely in their home studio, the band gained the confidence to take near-total control of the production process. Guitarist/bassist/keyboardist Kevin Comeau explains, „That record gave us the confidence to realize we could make a Crown Lands album in our own space, without a major-label budget or a big, fancy studio.“ That confidence carried directly into Apocalypse, with much of the album written and recorded in the same room the band has worked in since 2020. To enhance the album’s most crucial moments, Crown Lands selectively collaborated with producers Nick Raskulinecz and David Bottrill.

Conceptually, Apocalypse is designed as a complete, album-sides narrative experience, crafted with the classic album format in mind. About the track, drummer/vocalist Cody Bowles says, „With long-form songs, it always starts with the music. We built Apocalypse from instrumental sections, some older riffs, a lot of newly inspired ones, and mapped them out on a whiteboard, figuring out how one section could melt into the next.“

„Fearless and Ritual exist in the same story,“ says Bowles. „But Ritual takes place much earlier in the timeline—it shows the planet during times of peace. Apocalypse moves the story forward and sets up the events that lead directly into Fearless.“

Musikalisch und kreativ markiert „Apocalypse“ einen klaren Wendepunkt. Nachdem sie „Rituals“ komplett in ihrem Heimstudio fertiggestellt hatten, gewann die Band das Selbstvertrauen, den Produktionsprozess fast vollständig selbst in die Hand zu nehmen. Gitarrist/Bassist/Keyboarder Kevin Comeau erklärt: „Dieses Album gab uns das Selbstvertrauen zu erkennen, dass wir ein Crown Lands-Album in unseren eigenen Räumlichkeiten produzieren können, ohne das Budget eines Major-Labels oder ein großes, schickes Studio.“ Dieses Selbstvertrauen übertrug sich direkt auf „Apocalypse„, das größtenteils in demselben Raum geschrieben und aufgenommen wurde, in dem die Band seit 2020 arbeitet. Um die entscheidenden Momente des Albums zu unterstreichen, arbeitete Crown Lands gezielt mit den Produzenten Nick Raskulinecz und David Bottrill zusammen.

Das Konzept von „Apocalypse“ wurde unter Berücksichtigung des klassischen Albumformats gestaltet. Im Mittelpunkt des Albums steht der 19-minütige Titeltrack, ein episches Werk, das das Album sowohl musikalisch als auch inhaltlich prägt. Über den Track sagt Schlagzeuger/Sänger Cody Bowles: „Bei langen Songs fängt man immer mit der Musik an. Wir haben Apocalypse aus Instrumentalparts, einigen älteren Riffs und vielen neuen Inspirationen aufgebaut und sie auf einem Whiteboard skizziert, um herauszufinden, wie ein Part in den nächsten übergehen könnte.“

„Fearless und Ritual existieren in derselben Geschichte„, sagt Bowles. „Aber Ritual spielt viel weiter zurück in der Zeit – es zeigt den Planeten in Zeiten des Friedens. Apocalypse treibt die Geschichte voran und bereitet die Ereignisse vor, die direkt zu Fearless führen.“
