WALTARI chose absolute creative freedom.
For more than three decades, the Helsinki, FI, visionaries have happily ignored every musical rule ever written. Long before crossoverbecame a convenient label, WALTARI were already colliding metal with punk, rock with techno, pop with industrial, rap with progressive arrangements—and somehow making the beautiful chaos sound completely natural.
While others built careers inside neatly defined genres, WALTARI built an entire universe of their own.
This October, the Finnish originals return to European stages for a tour presented by powermetal.de and metal.de, bringing their celebrated latest album, Nation’s Neurosis, together with classics from every chapter of a career that has never stopped surprising audiences.
At the center of it all remains Kärtsy Hatakka – singer, bassist, songwriter, producer, visionary and one of the most unmistakable personalities in heavy music. Together with guitarists Eero Nykänen and Jakke Setälä and drummer Ville Vehviläinen, WALTARI continue to prove that curiosity is still the greatest fuel for creativity.
Released in 2025, Nation’s Neurosisfinds the band sounding as bold and uncompromising as ever. Written in the shadow of personal loss and against the backdrop of an increasingly fractured world, the album transforms frustration into fearless creativity. Crushing riffs meet irresistible hooks, electronic textures collide with punk energy, and moments of beauty emerge from glorious unpredictability. It is unmistakably WALTARI. And perhaps one of the band’s strongest statements in years.
Over the course of an extraordinary career, WALTARI have released ten Finnish chart albums, entered the German charts with Big Bang and Space Avenue, and performed everywhere from Wacken Open Air and Roskilde Festival to the legendary „70000 Tons of Metal“ cruise. Their influence reaches far beyond their own discography: countless musicians from Finland’s world-famous metal scene have cited WALTARI as an inspiration, while several notable players took their very first steps within the WALTARI family.
But legacy has never been the point.
WALTARI are not interested in repeating themselves. They thrive on surprise. Every album sounds like an adventure, every concert like an invitation to expect the unexpected. Heavy without limits. Melodic without compromise. Intelligent without pretension. Serious musicians who never forgot that making music should also be enormous fun.
That is exactly what fans can expect this October: a wildly entertaining celebration of over thirty-five years of fearless creativity, packed with new songs, timeless favourites and the joyful unpredictability that has made WALTARI one of Europe’s most unique live bands.
As Germany’s laut.de once wrote about Kärtsy Hatakka:
„Anyone who takes pride in being a true Finn probably has a delightful touch of madness. The same can certainly be said about Kärtsy Hatakka – an exceptionally likeable person and a truly gifted musician.“
Thirty-five years on, WALTARI remain gloriously unclassifiable.
And the world is still trying to catch up.
